InTense: 25 Years of Safety as a Conviction

Founded in 1997, InTense began as a personal mission by Bart Kelderman to redefine safety—not as a checklist item, but as a deeply held conviction.

As a physiotherapist in a major Dutch hospital, Bart witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of workplace accidents: severe injuries, long rehabilitation journeys, and profound emotional suffering for both victims and their families. These experiences sparked a powerful drive for change, rooted in the belief that “Zero harm, Zero damage” must be more than a goal—it must be a value.

Alongside his clinical work, Bart immersed himself in behavioral change and experiential learning, guiding groups through transformative experiences in the Belgian Ardennes. This method became the foundation of his approach to safety training. Inspired by his father Henk Kelderman, a lifelong HSE educator and trainer, the two pioneers introduced experiential learning into the world of health, safety, and environment—shifting the focus from procedures to human behavior and mindset.

Starting in the oil and gas industry, InTense quickly expanded across sectors. The international breakthrough came with winning the tender to develop a global HSE leadership program for DSM, followed by collaborations with numerous global clients. InTense has helped sites achieve award-winning safety records, proving that “Zero” is not just aspirational—it’s achievable.

Today, 25 years later, InTense continues to champion safety as a human value—driven by conviction, shaped by experience, and empowered by leadership.
